Como digo "amarelar" em inglês?

Hi everyone,

Vocês já se apavoraram diante de alguma tarefa, algum compromisso que vocês tinham e acabaram desistindo? Ou seja amarelando?

"I tried throwing all my socks away, but I got cold feet."

A expressão idiomática em inglês para apavorar-se, perder a coragem, amarelar é to get/have cold feet.  Ah bom! Então ele perdeu a coragem e não mais jogou as suas meias.

Obs 1:       try + gerúndio (experimentar para ver se dá certo)   I tried skiing but found it too difficult.
try + infinitivo (esforço para obter um resultado)      I tried to find your coat.

Obs. 2:     ficar + adjetivo como em: ficar cansado, ficar perdido, ficar triste, ficar velho, etc em inglês use o verbo GET + adjetivo como em: get tired, get lost, get sad, get old, etc.

Obs. 3:    throw away é um phrasal verb que significa: descartar algo que você não precisa mais; jogar fora

That's all for today,
See you next time!

  3. Hey guys, what's up? What about "chicken out"? Can we use in the same way?
Like: I CHICKENED OUT of the bungee jumping when I saw how high it was.

  4. Hey Michel, yes, chicken out is a phrasal verb which gives the same idea. It's a synonym.

    Thanks for your comment! ;)

  5. Hi Michel. I hope you're doing well. Hey Iramaia! 2 days ago some TV reporters on the street stopped me and asked me whether I wanted to give my opinion about the heavy traffic in Fortaleza... I considered it, but chickened out because I thought my Portuguese might not be good enough to be seen on national TV. I said to them, "Sorry, I just arrived in Fortaleza, so unfortunately I don't have an opinion". Haha, what a lie! I've been here for almost 3 years. Darn, I missed my 5 minutes of fame!
